Over the past few weeks, Donald Trump has had no problem staying in the news thanks to his highly controversial comments about Mexican immigrants. Spouting outlandish accusations, Trump is quoted as saying “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems… They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” He has continued to defend his statements by also promising to build a border wall and forcing the Mexican government to pay for it. Yes, over the past few weeks Trump has proven to us that he is a real life George Bluth and his business connections are screaming “no touching” through the adoption of their Dump Trump motto.
One of the latest businesses to Dump Trump is Chicago’s 5 Rabbit Cerveceria Brewery. The company has been supplying the Rebar in Trump Towers with their summer golden ale for quite some time and still has 50 kegs remaining. They pulled their kegs, have renamed them, and are selling them to local Chicago bars from now on.
While stopping business with Trump could have been their only form of recourse, the Latino-owned business chose to take things a step further by renaming their beer to “Chinga Tu Pelo,” or “F#ck You Hair” when translated. “We would be doing an injustice to the community we serve (and live in) by engaging in business with someone who does not accept our role in society and expresses a rhetoric of hate and ignorance towards us,” stated 5 Rabbit co-founder Andres Araya. The idea to change the name came from a fan on Twitter, who initially suggested the name be changed to “Chinga Tu Padre Trump.”
Other influential members of the Hispanic community with connections to Trump have also joined the Dump Trump bandwagon like Roselyn Sanchez and Cristián De La Fuente and Hispanic leaders issued a warning to the GOP to “Dump Trump or lose our vote.” With so many companies and people cutting ties with the presidential candidate, Forbes has created a daily tracker to let everyone know “Who dumped the Donald today?”
While 5 Rabbit may just be one small brewery in Chicago, they joined a long list of businesses pulling support that will continue to grow. Their combined voices can send a message to voters and the GOP alike and potentially this action by 5 Rabbit will encourage others in the beer and wine industry to cease their supplies to Trump as well.
